Most of the choice is made before you pick anything: a class 1 chimney, a class 2 pre-cast flue and a balanced flue all take different appliances, and fitting the wrong one is dangerous rather than merely disappointing. We check what's actually behind the opening — including a flue flow test — before recommending anything.
A gas fire service means stripping and cleaning the burner and injector, checking the oxygen depletion sensor, inspecting the flue and closure plate, and running a spillage test with the room sealed and any extractor going. Fires are the appliance most likely to spill combustion products into a room, which is why we won't sign one off without that test.
